š„ How I Break Down Artist Markets
A step-by-step look into how I analyze artist markets
Hey there! So, I've been getting a lot of questions lately about how I analyze an artistās market. What exactly goes into it? Today, Iām going to break it all down for you.
But before we get started, quick side noteālast week, I forgot to mention that some market data I used in that app ranking, it was updated with info from ArtFacts. Itās one of the best in the biz, so... my bad for the late mention. Better late than never, right? š¤·š¼āāļø
Now, let's talk about how I approach market metrics. To keep it simple, Iāll use Elizabeth Peyton as an example. A little while ago, I shared about her work, Torino (1999), which sold at Phillips for Ā£431,800ā8% above its estimate. Pretty solid, if you ask me.

When I talk about artists and their markets, I try to give you the right amount of market contextāsometimes a lot, sometimes just a bitādepending on what the situation calls for. The tricky part? Itās hard to cover all the metrics in just 60 seconds or a few lines. Unless, of course, you want to have a full-on conversation with yourselfā¦
