-Hunted Works-

1) Zhang Enli

Zhang Enli, Peel Off, 2006

  • 📍 Bio: Chinese, 1965

  • 📊 YOY Growth 2023: +27%

  • 💰 Record Price: $2,944,216 for EATING NO.4, sold at China Guardian Auctions, Beijing in 2024.

  • 🌎 Main Market: Hong Kong & U.S

💭 My 2 Cents: Don't let Zhang Enli's "Peel Off" fly under your radar. What do I mean by that? Well, this piece is coming up at Christie's on September 27, 2024, and it's something special. It's from his early phase, making it a bit of a hidden gem. Did you know his market has grown 27% this year alone? Works like this don't pop up often anymore. So, if you're thinking about getting in, now might be the perfect time before prices jump even higher.

So, what makes "Peel Off" so interesting? For starters, its provenance is top-notch—it's passed through major players like ShanghART and Christie's Hong Kong. That says a lot about its credibility, doesn't it? It's been tucked away in a private European collection for a while, and the last time it hit auction, it was snapped up quickly. Now it's back, with an estimate of $64,000 to $102,000. Considering Enli's larger works are going for over $1.8 million this year, that sounds like a steal.

Collectors are really eyeing his early works right now, especially with returns like a 105% CAGR. That's not an opportunity you want to miss out on. Enli's abstract pieces and his everyday object-themed works are in high demand, and finding smaller ones like this is getting tougher. Plus, with institutions like the Long Museum and Power Station of Art showcasing him, his visibility is only increasing—so don't be surprised if his prices do the same.

The Rising Demand for Whiskey: A Smart Investor’s Choice

Why are 250,000 Vinovest customers investing in whiskey?

In a word - consumption.

Global alcohol consumption is on the rise, with projections hitting new peaks by 2028. Whiskey, in particular, is experiencing significant growth, with the number of US craft distilleries quadrupling in the past decade. Younger generations are moving from beer to cocktails, boosting whiskey's popularity.

That’s not all.

Whiskey's tangible nature, market resilience, and Vinovest’s strategic approach make whiskey a smart addition to any diversified portfolio.

2) Christina Quarles

Christina Quarles, ALL THA STARS MAN, THA STARS LOOK BEAUTIFUL TONITE, 2006

  • 📍 Bio: American, 1985

  • 📊 YOY Growth 2023: +45%

  • 💰 Record Price: $4,527,000 for Night Fell Upon Us Up On Us, sold at Sotheby's New York in 2022.

  • 🌎 Main Market: U.S

💭My 2 Cents: You might want to keep an eye on this piece by Christina Quarles at Christie's Hong Kong. Why's that? This piece was created in 2016 and is coming from a private collection—it first sold at Christie's in 2020. When I saw the estimate—HK$700,000–900,000 (about $89,000–$114,000 USD)—I thought, "That seems pretty low for Quarles." Considering her average painting price hit $1.5 million last year, a 50x40 inch canvas like this might just be a bargain.

And the timing couldn't be better. Quarles is currently showing in "In an effort to be held" at Library Street Collective and "The Infinite Woman" at Villa Carmignac. She's really on fire right now, with recognition from the Tate Modern, MoCA, and even the Venice Biennale. Plus, with big shows lined up at the Dallas Museum of Art and Pinakothek der Moderne, it feels like she's only gaining more momentum. Sure, her sell-through rate dipped to 80% this year, but I've got a feeling this auction might reignite her market.

Here's something interesting—this piece was made in 2016, right before her big breakout. So, it's like getting a snapshot of her work just as she was starting to take off. Honestly, this feels like a solid opportunity for collectors to snag something special before her prices rise again. It's not so much about if it'll sell—it's about how far over the estimate it's going to go.

3) Nicolas Party

Nicolas Party, Still Life with a Candle, 2012

  • 📍 Bio: Swiss, 1980

  • 📊 YOY Growth 2023: +200%

  • 💰 Record Price: $6,668,826 for Blue Sunset, sold at Christie's Hong Kong in 2022.

  • 🌎 Main Market: U.S

💭 My 2 Cents: Don't miss Nicolas Party's "Still Life with a Candle" coming up at Christie's. Why am I saying that? Well, it's a 2012 piece, which means it's one of his early works—a time when he was still honing his unique style. When I heard about it, I got pretty excited. It's not every day you find an early work by Party, especially one that showcases his unique twist on traditional still life.

Now, considering Party's average prices have skyrocketed to $3.4 million in 2024, and his paintings often go for around $8.3 million, this estimate of HK$3,000,000 to HK$5,000,000 feels pretty conservative, don't you think? Especially since his "Still Life" series has been hitting top marks at auctions, with some pieces seeing incredible growth rates of over 5600%.

What's really interesting is that this piece is an oil on canvas from 2012. Early works like this offer not just something beautiful to look at but also a solid investment opportunity. Plus, with the demand for Party's work showing no signs of slowing down—remember, his average prices are expected to surpass $4 million by 2025—this might be a smart move.

Sure, there's always a bit of risk. The market has been really into Party's pastels lately, and this is an oil painting, which might not get the same attention. But given his global appeal and the fact that collectors are eager to snap up his work in all mediums, I feel this piece is worth a serious look.
