-Today’s Catch-
Sola Olulode
💭 My 2 Cents: At £10k, Sola Olulode's Everyday Gets Hotter Than The One Before is exactly the type of piece collectors often hunt: warm, intimate, and riding a wave of genuine interest. Golden hues and tender embraces might be trendy, but Olulode genuinely delivers something deeper, blending Yoruba textile methods with London's contemporary pulse.
🔑 Key Numbers: Olulode’s complete sell-out at 1-54 in 2022 saw prices soar from under £1,000 to today’s solid five-figure range. Secondary market data remains thin, with only a few auction appearances. Collectors currently hold tight, and institutional interest from the likes of the Smithsonian adds credibility.
🧠 Why It’s a Smart Pick: At this price point, you're catching an artist with authentic appeal who has proven resonance beyond market hype. Olulode’s blend of cultural depth, narrative intimacy, and technical skill positions her well to sustain value. Not a guaranteed jackpot, but clearly smarter than chasing flashy trends.

$13M Indian Record
South Asian art’s officially on fire after M. F. Husain’s Untitled (Gram Yatra) sold for a ridiculous $13.8 million at Christie’s. That’s almost four times the previous record, and the chatter’s louder than a Miami Basel VIP party, but before you rush into the frenzy, hold your damn horses.
At Sotheby’s, Jagdish Swaminathan’s Homage to Solzhenitsyn hammered at $4.69 million, setting another artist record. South Asian art is officially in its trophy era, crossing the mythical $10 million mark and showing no immediate signs of a hangover. But, and there’s always a but, frothy markets have a nasty habit of turning collectors into bagholders overnight.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong Art Week is back to flexing hard with glittering parties, DDR machines, and enough free-flowing champagne to distract you from the grim economic headlines. Everyone’s acting bullish, but Sotheby’s CEO Charles F. Stewart isn’t exactly popping bottles yet, calling his mood “cautiously optimistic”. Code for: he’s guessing like the rest of us. Local Hong Kong collectors are quietly buying more, even as mainland China buyers remain suspiciously absent.
